David L. McClain

David L. McClain, 68 of Vanderbilt, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 19, 2020 after a 9 year battle with Multiple Myeloma.  Despite the challenges his illness threw at him, Dave lived his life to the fullest.

Born on July 3, 1952 in Hillsdale, he lived his early years with his family in Jackson, where he graduated from high school.  He went on to attend Michigan State University, earning a degree in Agricultural Management.

On May 25, 1974, Dave was married in Traverse City to Christianne Shipman.  They lived in Michigan’s thumb area where he worked as manager of numerous agricultural supply companies in both the thumb area and around southeastern Michigan.

Many of these years were spent in Croswell, where they raised their sons, Bryon and Brandon.  Ten years ago Dave and Chris fulfilled their dream of building and moving to their retirement home on property they owned in Vanderbilt.

Dave loved spending time with his family; he also enjoyed being outdoors camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, wildlife viewing and woodworking.

Surviving is Chris, his wife of 46 years; his sons, Bryon McClain and Brandon (Shauna) McClain; grandchildren, Caelei, Braydon, Tyler, Allie and Averi;  sisters, Kathy Miller and Pam McClain; nieces, Christy and Michelle Miller and a nephew, Justin Garfield;  He was preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with his wishes, Dave’s family will remember him privately.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the University of Michigan Cancer Center or Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital Oncology Department.

Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.  Please share your memories and personal messages with the family at www.gaylordfuneralhome.com
