Dorothy H. McAlister

Dorothy H. McAlister, 100 of Gaylord, better known as “Bunny”, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Medilodge in Gaylord.

She was born in Passaic, New Jersey on August 30, 1919 to Kryn and Henrietta (Kwaak) Hamilton.

On June 13, 1942 she was married to James Robert McAlister at Brookdale Baptist Church in Bloomfield, New Jersey.  They were married for 67 years.

Bunny was a very devoted and loving mother and wife.  She loved the Lord and attended church faithfully.  She was a Sunday school teacher, nursery worker and prayer warrior.

She vacationed many years in Long Island, NY where she became a lover of the beach, seafood and anything nautical.  Bunny also enjoyed flowers and animals.  While living at The Brook in Gaylord, she loved watching the birds and feeding the wild turkeys that made almost daily visits past her door during warm weather months.

Family was very important to her; she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bunny is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Joan (Jim) Mathis and Marilyn Carlson; and a son, Jim (Wendy) McAlister.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jennifer Cleaver, Michelle (Andy) Motz, Amy (Shane) Fatzinger, Sheri (Sean) Gilbert, James McAlister, Carla (Jim) Chen, Nick Smith, Jeff (Livia) Smith and 17 great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim McAlister, a stillborn son and her sister, Marge Johnson.

Memorial services will be planned at a later date at Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina and the E-Free Church in Gaylord.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in her memory to the Gaylord E-Free Church.

Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.  Please share your memories and personal messages with the family at www.gaylordfuneralhome.com
