Barbara A. Plunkett, age 84, passed away on May 7, 2026, in Gaylord, Michigan. She was born on January 8, 1942.
A lifelong educator, Barbara served as a music teacher for the Springcreek School and the Miami East School District. She is fondly remembered by generations of former students for her caring heart and the familiar sight of her glasses resting on the piano during lessons. In addition to her professional career, Barbara was an active member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church, where she directed the choir for many years. She was known by her family and community as a supportive, cheerful, and accepting individual who welcomed all.
Barbara had a passion for travel and was always ready for a new adventure. She was a devoted supporter of University of Tennessee athletics, particularly football and women's basketball. In her later years, she found great peace in the outdoors and enjoyed feeding the birds at her Lakes of the North home.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert A. Plunkett; her children, Alisha (Joel) Springle, Melissa (Tony) Beckstrom, and Jesse (Virginia) Plunkett; and her sister, Karen Fagan.
She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Rowan (Erin) Kind, Victoria Springle, Aidan Springle, Kayla (Ty) Smith, Kade (Rachel) Beckstrom, and Ava Plunkett; and three great-grandchildren: Lucy Smith, Piper Smith, and Saylor Beckstrom. She was always a nurturing presence in the lives of her nieces: Jessica (John) Buttermore and Erin (Chuck) Hanna.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother whose presence will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community she supported over her richly enjoyed life.
The family has chosen to remember her privately. Please share your memories and personal messages with the family on her guestbook below.
