Bonnie Mae English

Bonnie Mae English, 83 of Gaylord, passed away at home on Saturday, June 18, 2022.

Born in Dunkirk, New York, she was the daughter of Henry and Sophie (Mleczko) Kowalski.

Bonnie and her husband, Joe, lived in Ferndale where they raised their five sons.  She worked for several years as a switchboard operator and in a grocery store as a cashier.  Later, after moving up north in 1998, she worked for a time at her son’s Atlanta gas station.

Bonnie loved her God and lived a devout Catholic life.  She was a parishioner at St. Mary Cathedral.

When her five sons were young, she was a dedicated scouting mom.  She enjoyed her flower gardens, taking care of her fishpond and following University of Michigan football.  Looking after animals and spending time with her grandchildren also brought her great joy.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Thomas English in 2003.  Surviving are her five sons, John (Dolores) English of Royal Oak, Joseph (Lokelani) English of Gaylord, James (Kim) English of Petoskey, Patrick (Michelle) English of Gould City and Edward (Shelley) English of Gaylord; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Lyla.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Kowalski Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 25, 2022, at St. Mary Cathedral where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to St. Mary Cathedral.
