Brett Alan Jensen, 53 of Elmira, passed away at home on Monday, December 16, 2019 after a three month illness.

Born on May 17, 1966 in Gaylord, Brett was the son of Edmond W. and Beverly A. (Simmons) Jensen.  He was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Gaylord High School in 1984.  Following graduation, Brett served in the United States Navy from 1984-1986.

Brett dedicated his life to serving his community by pursuing his passion for firefighting.  He was currently a Captain with the Otsego County Fire Department where he had served for 31 years, and he was a longtime area Fire Inspector for the State of Michigan.  Brett also enjoyed being involved in the education and training of firefighters.

He is survived by his husband, Ross Witherbee, whom he had shared his life with for over 16 years.  Also surviving is his sister, Becky Phillips of Gaylord; brothers, Brad (Sandra) Jensen of Alexandria, IN, and Brian Jensen of Texas; a sister-in-law, Kathy Jensen of Gaylord; a brother-in-law, Glen (Jason) Witherbee of Gaylord; his mother and father-in-law, Roger and Carol Witherbee of Alpena; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Chloe and Bailey.  He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Barry Jensen.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the Otsego County Fire Department, 811 S. Wisconsin St in Gaylord, followed by a time for visiting and refreshments.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Otsego County Fire Department, P.O.
