Carol Virginia Burwell, 78 of Alanson, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at home.

Born in Alpena, MI on April 22, 1941, Carol was the daughter of Gordon and Dorothy (Edmonds) LaCross.  The family lived for several years in Flint before moving to Indian River when Carol was 14 years old.  She was a 1959 graduate of Inland Lakes High School.

On June 4, 1960, Carol was married to Robert Paul Burwell Sr at National Shrine of Cross in the Woods in Indian River.  She worked for Inland Lakes Schools as a bus driver for 30 years.  In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading and knitting.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burwell Sr.  She is survived by her children, Robert Burwell Jr. of Akron, MI, Dawn (Dan) Shipley of Murfreesboro, TN, Richard Burwell of Fairgrove, MI, Patrick Burwell of Gaylord, MI and Kateri (Roxanne) Burwell of Akron, MI; 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Kaiser of Indian River and Virginia (Ginger) Ashford of Alanson; a brother, Clarence (Anne) LaCross of East Jordan; several nieces and nephews and very special family friends, Marcie & Randy Wright of Afton and Geri Witti of Alanson.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, David LaCross.

In keeping with her wishes, Carol’s family will remember her privately.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Leukemia Research Foundation, 191 Waukegan Rd, Suite 105, Northfield, IL  60093.
