Carrie Ellen Cruz

Carrie Cruz passed away during the quiet early hours of Monday, June 30, 2026 surrounded by a love that had carried her throughout her life. In the days leading to her passing, her house became a place of reunion as her parents, Lee Ann and Allan Parker; siblings, Cheryl, Laura, Christina, Michael, Kelly, Jack and their children and spouses; and her dear friends gathered to celebrate her. To laugh. To pray. To remember. To be grateful for her life and to love her as well as she did them. Though her earthly journey has ended, the joy she shared so freely continues to bloom in the lives she shaped. She is survived by the two greatest treasures of her life, her daughters, Danielle and Rosemarie Cruz. In them, her kindness, courage, and unwavering love will continue on.

In 1982 Carrie's free spirit led her to join the United States Navy where she faithfully served her county for twenty years. As one of the first women to serve as an Electronics Technician, she quietly broke barriers inspiring countless people who had the privilege of serving beside her. During her service she had the opportunity to satisfy her hunger as an adventurer and traveled the world visiting places like Italy, Hawaii, California, Bahrain, Guam and more. Everywhere she went she forged strong bonds and packed her time with fun and wild experiences. Carrie's love of travel never ceased and she continued adventuring long after retiring as a Chief Petty Officer (E-7).

Yet if you asked Carrie what accomplishment she treasured most, she would never mention her rank or the miles she traveled. Without hesitation, she would tell you that the greatest gift of her life was becoming a mother. It was in motherhood that her heart found its deepest calling. Carrie often booked her time full with her girls' activities; running them to practices and competitions, to new countries and states, and, of course, to the church where she instilled in them a love of Christ. Her daughters always knew a love that was steadfast and unconditional. A love that celebrated every milestone, carried their burdens, and never asked for anything in return.

Carrie possessed a strength of spirit that was matched only by her generosity. Her home was rarely just her own. It was a place where brothers and sisters lingered around the table, where nieces and nephews knew they were welcome, where friends became family, and where no one ever needed an invitation to belong. She had the remarkable gift of making people feel seen and safe simply by opening her door and her heart.

Carrie's hands were rarely still. They created beauty wherever they went. She delighted in baking intricate cakes and pastries, carefully crafting rosaries, and filling ordinary days with small acts of creativity that became lasting memories for those around her. She believed that love could be expressed in something made with patience, offered freely, and shared generously.

Above all else, Carrie was a woman of profound faith. Christ was the center of her life, and hope was the language of her heart. She made pilgrimages to sacred places including Lourdes, Medjugorje, Fatima, Santiago de Compostela, and many others, always seeking to draw nearer to God. She believed deeply in miracles. Not only the extraordinary ones, but the quiet miracles found in forgiveness, and in family and friendship, and most of all, grace. Her faith was not something she simply professed; it was something she lived each day through with unwavering trust.

For those who knew Carrie, they will remember her fierce laughter and loyalty, her resilience, and the way she made room for others wherever she went. She leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by years alone, but instead by the countless lives made gentler because she loved them. As we grieve, we also give thanks. We trust that the God Carrie loved so faithfully has now welcomed her home. Carrie has come to complete the greatest pilgrimage of her life, finding her final destination in the arms of her heavenly Father where every tear is wiped away and every promise is made complete.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, July 3, 2026 at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, MI where visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 AM. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the service will be available.
