Cecil E. Looney, 87 of Gaylord passed away at home on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Born on January 11, 1927 in Pierce City, Missouri, Cecil was the son of Cecil and Mabel Looney. He was a 1944 graduate of Pierce City High School. Cecil served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46 on the destroyer USS Yarnall DD541. He settled in San Diego after his military service. In 1946 he married Betty Brown. They were married for 62 years when she preceded him in death in 2008. He later moved to Flint, Michigan where he worked in administration for Buick from 1948-86. Cecil continued to reside in Flint until 2008. In his early days Cecil was an avid pinochle player and an advanced square dancer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He will be remembered for his kindness toward others, always there to help no matter the situation. In retirement he enjoyed reconditioning used bicycles and giving them to the neighborhood kids in a several block area. The kids always knew they could bring them back to him for repairs when needed. Cecil is survived by his son Ron (Carmen) Looney of Atlanta, MI; grandchildren, Lokelani, Sean, Noelle and Sierra; and great grandchildren, Natassja, Tyler, Keelin, Jenna and Callie. Also surviving are brothers, Ross and Lawrence both in Missouri; and sisters, Patricia Crafts in Florida and Joyce Rodgerson in Arizona. He was preceded in death by brothers, James and Harry. No services are planned. Burial will be at Sunset Hills in Flushing, MI and is planned for 1:00 PM Saturday, May 24, 2014. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in Cecil’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice. Services are being handled by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Those attending the graveside service for Cecil on Saturday, May 24th are asked to meed at the Sunset Hills Cemetery entrance shortly before 1:00 PM. Following the service there will be a gathering at Habachi Buffet, 3022 S. Linden Road at the corner of Lennon and Linden Roads.
