Charles E. Hamsher

Charles Edward Hamsher, 94 of Wolverine, passed away peacefully at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Born May 1, 1931, in Pontiac, he was the son of Charles and Jean (Williamson) Hamsher.

On August 19, 1950, Chuck married the love of his life, Ruth Anne Goodchild. They were longtime residents of Wolverine, where they raised their three children.

Chuck was a disciplined, hard-working man, operating both an excavating business and a dairy farm. At 94 he was still working. He died doing what he loved most, preparing a load of sand for delivery.

In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed working on clocks of all shapes and sizes, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by Ruth Anne, his wife of 75 years; his children, Judy (Dan) Shively, Dan (Diane) Hamsher, and Lisa (Mark) Snowden; his grandchildren, Jon Sherman, Rodney Sherman, Bill Shively, Jim Shively, Dawn Connors, David Hamsher, Breanna Jewell, Greg Snowden, and Sam Snowden; his many great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jean Hamsher; sisters, Bessie, Florence, and Flossie; and brothers, Ray, Clyde, John, and Harvey.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Wolverine Congregational Church where the family will visit with friends beginning at 10:00 AM. Those who wish are welcome at the farm rather than attending the service, and after the service as well.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish consider memorial contributions in his memory to The Salvation Army.

Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Please share your memories and personal messages on the guestbook below.
