Corey Eric Harmer, 51 of Gaylord, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Munson Otsego Memorial Hospital.
Born August 12, 1971 in Petoskey, he was the son of Michael and Noreen (Canfield) Harmer. Corey grew up in Frederic and Grayling, where he graduated from high school in 1989. After high school, Corey attended the Emeril Lagasse Culinary School in New Orleans, LA.
A long-time resident of Gaylord, Corey was the chef and manager at Gobbler’s in Gaylord for nearly 30 years, until their closing in April of 2022. In May, with the help of his family, he opened Marmalade & Co. in downtown Gaylord.
Family always came first for Corey, and he enjoyed any opportunity to spend family time together with them. He also loved animals, especially his cats, and music, especially classic rock. As an avid fan of all sports, he enjoyed relaxing, watching a game and enjoying a beer or two.
Corey is survived by wife Jennifer; they had been together since 2001 and married in Gaylord on June 2, 2007. Also surviving are six children, Savanna (Michael) Fiebelkorn of Grayling, Kasy (Erryn Czykowski) Harmer of Grayling, Brenna Gray of Gaylord, Taylor Harmer of Detroit, Jon Gray of Gaylord and Corbin (Rose Dull) Slaven of Gaylord; five grandchildren; brothers, Lance (Morgan) Harmer and Nick Harmer, both of Wolverine; his extended family that includes aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats, Magic and Duchess.
Corey was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Brent Harmer.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Corey’s life will be held at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service from 1:00-4:00 PM Saturday, December 17, 2022.
