Darryl Michael Taskey

Darryl Michael Taskey, 71 of Gaylord, went to Heaven on the Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at home. He was surrounded by loved ones.

The son of Ben and Marion (Kassuba) Taskey, Darryl was born in Gaylord on April 9, 1954, and graduated from Gaylord High School. His further education included Life.

In 2004, Darryl met the love of his life Theresa (Grenke, Capito) they dated and then were married on August 13, 2011, and have spent the last 15 growing into a loving, giving and grateful relationship that will last through the ages even after death!

Darryl loved the outdoors, fishing hunting and most of all just driving the back roads with his wife Theresa, looking for animals of all kinds. Darryl Lived in Gaylord his whole life and knew many, many people and was well liked. His job skills were excavating, carpentry, pole barns and construction, although anyone who knew him knew he could do anything he put his mind to! He would make up things to do just to be outside! He was an avid gardener and enjoyed driving his tractor. Darryl was a great PROTECTOR of Children and always felt a special place for them especially those who where battling issues that children should not have to endure.

He is survived by his wife Theresa; daughter, Tonya (George) Fisher and step-daughter, Veronica (Adam) Short; step-son, Nicholas Grenke; sons, Michael and Matt; grandchildren, Ryan, Hannah, Steele, Wyatt, Wade, Xandra and Kade; great-grandchildren; brother, Terry (Carol) Taskey of Florida; sister, Jean (Michael) Hague of Florida; sister-in-law, Edith Sides-Taskey of Gaylord; 3 other sisters and many, many nieces and nephews as well as greats and great greats!

He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Taskey and mother, Marion (Kassuba) Taskey; brothers, Benji, Kenny, Bob, Les and Todd.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Theresa Taskey, In C/O Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 850 N. Center Avenue, Gaylord MI 49735. Darryl instructed Theresa to make a large donation to the St. Judes Children's Hospital on Father's Day this year in memory of Darryl.

He would be honored if you would like to order and plant a memorial tree in his memory after the devastation from the 2025 Ice Storm which broke his heart.

Interment will take place at Maple Forest Township Cemetery in Grayling, MI.
