Darryl Delaine Valentine, 84 of Johannesburg, passed away at home on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

 

Born in Atlanta, Michigan on March 26, 1939, he was the son of Clare and Dorothy (Smith) Valentine.  On April 8, 1972, Darryl and Joan Knoch were married in Gaylord.

 

After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

 

Darryl was retired from a lengthy career as a truck driver thorough Teamsters Local 486.  

 

In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, playing golf and watching sports on TV.  Darryl was a longtime fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions.  He will be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor and for the prankster he was.

 

Surviving is Joan, his wife of almost 52 years; daughters, Shannon (Carl) Froberg of Davison and Brandi (Scott) Girardot of Commerce Township; a son, Scott (Tracy) Valentine of Davison; a step daughter, Penny Dice of Johannesburg; a step son, Jody (Wendy) Dice of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister, Sue Wellbaum of Gaylord; nine grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Deborah (Chris) Ewing of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clare, and Dorothy Valentine; his father and mother-in-law, Norman and Velma Knoch; and brothers-in-law, Norman and Richard Knoch.

 

In keeping with his wishes, a family graveside service will be held at Briley Township Cemetery.  Those who wish may send condolences to the family at 3558 Birchdale Drive, Johannesburg, MI  49751.
