It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Carroll Evans, 85, of Gaylord, Michigan, who departed this life on Saturday, August 22, 2026, due to natural causes. Born on March 31, 1941, in Shelbyville, Indiana, David was the second of seven children in a close-knit family that instilled in him the values of love, hard work, and community.
David's family moved to Gaylord in 1954, where he graduated from Gaylord High School. His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue higher education at Central Michigan College and Davenport College, earning degrees in business and accounting. In the 1960s, he founded Evans Accounting, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his community, and proudly served his clients until his retirement in 2016.
In 1965, David met the love of his life, Mary Sue Evans. They married in 1970, building a cherished partnership that lasted 56 years. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Angel and Jerry, and created a life filled with love, warmth, and countless cherished memories. David was a devoted husband and father, and his legacy lives on through his family.
David had a passion for the outdoors. Whether tending to his garden, raising chickens, camping under the stars, or fishing in the serene waters of Canada, he embraced life with enthusiasm. His love for nature was matched only by his love for crafting in his woodshop, where he created toys and cradles for his adored grandchildren.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Sue; his children, Angel (Kenneth) Hoy and Jerry (Christa) Evans; and his grandchildren, Morgan (Audra) Caldwell, Johnathan (Chelsea) Hoy, Jaden (Charlie) McClerren, Joseph Hoy, and Jackson (Holden) Evans. He leaves behind his cherished siblings, Ramona Viviano, Willa Studevant, and Athol Evans, as well as many dear nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tilden and Margaret (Holeman) Evans; his sister, Niona Williams; and two brothers, Marvin and Earl Evans.
A Celebration of Life will be held in memory of David at a future date, with details to be shared as they are finalized.
