Dean Charles Varty, 78 of Gaylord, went home to be with the Lord on January 26, 2026. He was born on January 27, 1947, in Minot, North Dakota, where his journey through life began and unfolded into an inspiring testament of faith, kindness, and unwavering generosity.
An active member of Peace Lutheran Church, Dean found a true sense of home among the dear friends he cultivated throughout his years in the congregation. His presence was a source of strength and warmth, embodying the values of patience, honesty, humility, and love. Dean's incredible faith resonated deeply with those around him, serving as a guiding light not only in his life but also for those fortunate enough to know him.
Dean was blessed with a strong and loving circle of friends from the Gaylord Methodist Church, where he fostered meaningful relationships that enriched his life and the lives of others. His legacy will live on through the memories he shared and the indelible impact he made on his community.
As he now rests with the Lord, Dean leaves behind a vibrant legacy of friendship, faith, and love that will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. His spirit will continue to inspire and uplift, a testament to a life lived with purpose and dedication.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; sons, Marc (Natalie) Varty and Leslie (Ellen) VanAlstine; daughter, Tina Varty; grandchildren, Cecelia (Murphy), Gabriel, Alex, Gabriella, Bowin and Mikayla; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Greta, Ryleigh, Myla, Bella and Silas; mother-in-law and father-in-law Hilda and Gerald Vansickle; brothers-in-law, Alan and Bob McCall; sister-in-law, Maureen McCall; his dear nieces, nephews, including great-nieces, two great-nephews, with a bonus of two great-great nephews; and many beloved cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth (Jurgenson) Varty; father-in-law, Robert McCall and sister-in-law, Janet McCall.
A memorial service celebrating Deans life will take place 12:00 PM Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Peace Lutheran Church, where the family will visit with friends beginning at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ELCA World Hunger, Peace Lutheran Church or to the Otsego County Food Pantry.
