Delores Alice Matelski

Delores Alice Matelski, 91 of Gaylord, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Medilodge of Gaylord.

Born in Corwith Township on July 12, 1929, she was the daughter of Marcus and Gertrude (Crane) O’Rourke.  She was a lifelong area resident.

On August 23, 1946, Delores married Bernard P. Matelski at St. Mary Catholic Church in Gaylord.  They were married nearly 40 years when he preceded her in death on August 8, 1986.

Delores was a devoted homemaker and mom.  She enjoyed baking, gardening, knitting and crocheting.  Especially in her later years, a word search puzzle book was always nearby.

Delores is survived by her children, Patricia Lever of Sault Ste. Marie, Bernard (Barb) Matelski of Gaylord, Thomas (Marcia) Matelski of Vanderbilt, Marcus (Sandra) Matelski of Gaylord, David (Cindy) Matelski of Gaylord and Karen (Brian) Campbell of Gaylord; 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren with 3 more soon to arrive; 3 great great grandchildren; a sister, Joanne Waltenberg of Gladwin; brothers, James O’Rourke of Gaylord, Richard O’Rourke and Donald O’Rourke both of Vanderbilt; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by sisters, Marcella Griffith and Caroline Perry; brothers, Steven, Vince, Pete, Pat and Tom O’Rourke; and her longtime friend and companion, Gene LaFayette.

Private family visitation and services will be held with burial at Resurrection Cemetery.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Otsego County Commission on Aging.
