DeWaine "Larry" Teal Jr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of DeWaine Larry "Larry" Teal Jr., 86, on March 1, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Post Polio Syndrome. Born on July 9, 1939, in Imlay City, Michigan, Larry's life was a testament to resilience, faith, and boundless love for family and community.

Larry was the cherished son of DeWaine Larry Teal Sr. and Anne Jeanette Matteson, who instilled in him the values of compassion and integrity. Preceded in death by his parents and dear brother-in-law, Roger Lomerson, Larry's legacy continues to shine brightly through the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara, his beloved partner of 49 years. Their union in 1977 was a beautiful blending of two families, bringing together their six children, Tammi (Jim) Simpson, Deby (Terry) Lake, Laura (David) Croft, Ron (Lori) Sherrer, Penny Teal, and Carol Christner. His life was further enriched by 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Lomerson; two nieces and nephews, and two great nieces and nephews, each carrying forward his spirit of love and laughter.

A proud alumnus of Imlay City School in Imlay City, Larry pursued further education through college courses, which laid the foundation for a fulfilling career at General Motors AC Spark Plug. Over 30 years, he held various roles, including Quality Engineer in Electronics, Supervisor, and Safety Man, where his dedication and expertise left an indelible mark.

Larry's faith was the cornerstone of his life. An active member of the Calvary Baptist Church, he embraced a profound personal relationship with Jesus Christ. His work as a Chaplain, particularly with the Davison Police Department, highlighted his commitment to service, as did his joy in performing marriages and teaching Bible classes. His gift for memorizing entire chapters of the Bible and his passion for sharing the Gospel touched countless lives.

Music was another of Larry's passions. His beautiful bass voice resonated in the Harmony Meisters, and he played the guitar, Dobro, and piano by ear, bringing joy to those around him.

A man of many interests, Larry found solace in fly fishing, crafting fly fishing poles for family, and he enjoyed golfing and participating in leagues. His fascination with history and the Bible, coupled with his love for Ham Radio, kept him connected to people worldwide. One of Larry's favorite accomplishments was writing his first book called "Bibles, Baptist, and Britannia". He was so proud when it was published.

Larry was a man of quick wit and warmth, known for his jokes that could lighten any mood and his ability to make everyone feel valued. His kindness, generosity, and welcoming nature made him a cherished friend and confidant to many.

His family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Porches Assisted Living, McReynolds Hall, and Hospice of Michigan for their compassionate care. As they reflect on his life, they hold dear the sentiment, "Forever in our Hearts."

Larry's legacy of love, faith, and humor will be lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate to know him. His spirit lives on in the laughter of his grandchildren, the songs sung by those he inspired, and the faith he so ardently shared.Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service where visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 AM.
