Donald Leroy Halvorson, age 92 of Gaylord, MI passed away on Thursday December 16, 2021 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice, FL
Mr. Halvorson was born on August 25, 1929 in Wahpeton, North Dakota to Arthur and Ethel (Hedner) Halvorson. He graduated from Wayne high school near Detroit, in 1948.
He married Emily Wilkins on July 25, 1948. Soon after their family grew with the births of 5 children.
Mr. Halvorson is survived by three daughters and two sons. Ann (Mark) Corbiser, Paul (Lisa) Halvorson, Phila (Jim) Gilligan, John (Franciene) Halvorson and Christine (Tom) Mons. 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, which he was very proud of.
He and his wife owned many businesses in Gaylord. They loved golf, downhill skiing and water sports with family and neighbors. They were very involved in Alpenfest, Otsego County Fair pageant and others in Northern Michigan. However his love for people was far greater. He was a wonderful cook known for his soup luncheons, raising money for missionaries. He would always lend a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emily of 58 1/2 years and his parents Arthur and Ethel Halvorson and his brother Roland Halvorson.
A Celebration of Life will take place at his Florida church, Faith Community on February 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM. For his Michigan family and friends, a Celebration of Life will take place in Gaylord at the Evangelical Free Church on June 11, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place beginning at 10:30 AM. A luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be given to missionaries at Mr. Halvorson’s Churches. Please share your memories and personal messages with the family on the tribute wall.
