Douglas H. Schubert, age 86, formerly of Grosse Pointe Woods passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025.
He was born July 15, 1939 in Grand Island, NE to Harry and Helen (Walbrecht) Schubert. He graduated from Grand Island High in 1957.
He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Doane College and a Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska. On August 16, 1964, he married the love of his life, Carol Brening, whom he met while teaching in Hastings, NE. In 1967, they moved to Michigan. After teaching math for 33 years at Parcells Middle School in Grosse Pointe he retired in 1994. In 1999, he and Carol moved to their home in Michaywe, where Doug was an active volunteer in his beloved community. He was an active member of Gaylord Methodist Church, singing in the choir and acting as Chairman of the Finance Committee. He belonged to the Michaywe Golf Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He enjoyed his life playing golf, hunting, fishing, bowling, reading, cross country skiing and traveling the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Roberta Brugger and Barbara Spilker. He is survived by his wife Carol, brother-in-law Glenn (Linda) Brening, and nine nieces and nephews.
Doug was well loved for his positive attitude, his wonderful sense of humor and his magic tricks.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be scheduled in the future. Memorials for Doug may be made to Gaylord Methodist Church Memorial Garden Fund.
