Douglas Wayne Simcek

Douglas Wayne Simcek, 32 of Gaylord, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, December 18, 2022.

A lifelong resident, Doug was born in Gaylord on February 18, 1990, the son of Richard Lee and Sally Ann (Brown) Simcek.  He was a 2008 graduate of Gaylord High School.

Doug was a hard-working guy who worked in construction and other jobs.  He will be remembered for his love of farming and animals, especially his dogs.  Always happiest outdoors, Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, and even bull riding.  In middle and high school he was a wrestler and later he participated in local MMA wrestling.  His family and friends will remember him for his big heart and smile.  He was always helpful to others, a guy who would give anyone in need the shirt off his back.

Doug is survived by his parents, Sally (Kent) Avery of Gaylord and Richard (Laurie) Simcek of Vanderbilt; his sister, Caitlin Simcek of Jacksonville, FL; a stepsister, Krystal (Marty) Donajkowski of Gaylord; and stepbrothers, Colby Simcek, and Kodee, Brandenn, and Justin Padgett; and his grandfather, Roy Simcek Sr. of Vanderbilt.  Also surviving are his aunts and uncles, Linda Simcek, Randy Simeck, Roy Jr. (Christy) Simeck, Rick (Angie) Brown, Mike (Debbie) Brown, Tim Brown, Ron Koronka, Karen Avery, Kraig Avery and Keith Avery; a great aunt, Marilyn Odor; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne and Sandra “Toni” Brown, grandmother, Barbara Simcek; and grandfather, Chum Avery; his uncles, Ryan Simcek and Kalvin Avery; an aunt, Peggy Koronka; and a cousin, Travis Brown.

Doug’s family will visit with friends to remember his life at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service from 3:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, December 27, 2022.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in his memory to the Mackinac County Water Safety Review Team, 2019 Shore Drive, St. Ignace, MI  49781.
