Gaylord

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Duane Floyd Butcher, who left us peacefully on October 7, 2026. Born on April 4, 1946, in Muskegon, Michigan, Duane lived a life filled with laughter, adventure, and love. He called Gaylord, MI, home and treasured the friendships and community he built there.

Duane was a dedicated custodian for the Road Commission, known for his hard work and caring spirit. He was loved by colleagues and friends alike, always ready to lend a hand or share a story. When he wasn't working, you could find him enjoying his favorite pastimes - hunting, fishing, and competing in black powder competitions. Duane had a passion for bowling too and often spent time at the lanes with friends, sharing good times and good-natured competition.

A proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.) 1825, Duane was honored to be named a Golden Eagle, a testament to his commitment to the organization and the camaraderie it fostered. He also spent several memorable years in Kawinis, where he made even more lasting connections.

Duane is survived by his loving wife, Marylu (Sehl) Butcher, who was his rock and greatest supporter. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with memories that will never fade. Together they had three children, Keith, Kenneth and Savanna (
Shain); grandchildren, Charley (Brandon), Kenton (Taylor), Kendra (Tony), Kaedence, John (Stormy), Landen, and Thomas; with four great-grandchildren, Keyara, Kaz, Dax, and Celaena.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Gwenivere Butcher; four brothers and two sisters.

Rest easy, Duane. You will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those you touched.

The family has chosen to remember him privately with an
inurnment planned for Spring 2027. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to AdvisaCare Hospice, 218 W. Garfield Avenue, Charlevoix, MI 49720. The family would like to thank the entire staff, especially the nurses, who went above and beyond their duty for Duane and all his family. We are so grateful for your help during this time.
