Floyd M Holborn

Floyd M. Holborn, 80 of Gaylord and formerly a lifelong resident of Vanderbilt, died on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at home with his family by his side. Born in Gaylord on January 9, 1933, Floyd was the son of Charles and Ila (Montgomery) Holborn. On June 2, 1950, Floyd married his wife of 62 years, Patricia A. Slater in Gaylord. For three years after their marriage, Floyd worked at the former TB Sanitarium in Gaylord before going to work at Standard Products, now Cooper Standard. He retired from there in 1992 after 40 years of service. Floyd and Pat opened P&F Variety in Vanderbilt which they operated for 10 years, until 1972. The store is now Village Market. In addition to the store they built four homes and were involved in remodeling or improving 28 other Vanderbilt homes. Floyd was a charter member of Pigeon River Baptist Church which he was involved in the construction of and he also was involved in additions or remodeling at the Vanderbilt Community Church and at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He was a former member of the Vanderbilt Community School Board of Education, Vanderbilt Lions, Odd fellows and the Masonic Lodge. Floyd loved fishing and together he and Pat enjoyed Canadian fishing trips for 33 years. He also enjoyed hunting, camping and the outdoors in general. At church, he played the tambourine. Floyd is survived by his wife, Pat; their three children, Christine (Greg) Dutcher, Charles (Karen) Holborn and William Holborn all of Vanderbilt; their extended family, Neil (Joy) Brasseur and Raymond (Tara) Musall of Vanderbilt; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and a brother, James (Bernice) Holborn also of Vanderbilt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ila Holborn. Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Vanderbilt Community Church with Pastor Allen Ballard and Pastor John Bifoss officiating. Visitation will begin at the church at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans through Gaylord Funeral & Cremation Service, 850 N. Center Ave, P.O. Box 249, Gaylord, MI 49734.
