Frances M. “Fran” Winkel, 91 of Gaylord, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020 at Bay Bluffs in Harbor Springs.

Born on April 8, 1929 in Sebewaing, Michigan, she was the daughter of Herman and Helen (Klein) Adams.

Fran grew up in Michigan’s thumb area where she met her future husband, Keith A. Winkel in Pigeon.  They were married in Berne on April 22, 1950.

Fran was a stay at home mom with their four children.  She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, crossword and jigsaw puzzles.  Also an avid gardener, Fran could often be found working around her yard and garden.  With their family and in retirement, Fran and Keith enjoyed traveling, having visited every state except Hawaii.  Fran’s family and friends will remember her dedicated, kind and sweet personality.

She was preceded in death by Keith, her husband of 68 years, a daughter, Karen Hansen; and a brother, Howard Adams.  Fran is survived by her children, David (Jean) Winkel and Julie (Charlie) Lovelace all of Gaylord and Jerry (Jan) Winkel of Santa Rosa, CA; a son-in-law, Chris Hansen of Gaylord; grandchildren, Celeste, Trevor, Kimberly, Brent, Mallorie, Samantha, Jamie and Jesse; great grandchildren, Zachary, Paige, Bailey, Dylan, Emmy, Grayson, Gerald and Killian; her sister, Irene (Keith) Denton of Marquette; a brother-in-law, Ray Winkel of Kalamazoo, a sisters-in-law, Barbara Schmidt of Owendale and Pat Adams of Sebewaing as well as several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements for a family memorial service and interment at Fairview Cemetery are pending.  Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan or Bay Bluffs for resident activities.
