Gary Lee Munford, 74, passed from this world into the loving arms of Our Heavenly Father on August 15, 2022. He passed away in the home of one of his sons, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born on March 13, 1948, in Fremont Michigan to George and Elizabeth (Gleason) Munford.
He grew up in Muskegon and graduated from North Muskegon High School. After serving in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller for four years, he attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette Michigan, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in special education. He had a distinguished 30-year teaching career helping developmentally delayed children and young adults while living in Gaylord, Michigan. Throughout his life, Gary’s greatest love was his family, which included 10 siblings, five sons, and grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Gary is survived by sisters Debbie (Rex) Carr, and Paula Munford, brothers Wayne (Connie) Munford, Ron (Jodie) Munford, Larry (Betty) Munford, Kenneth (Mary Ann) Munford and David Munford. He is also survived by his loving sons, Jason (Jordan) Munford, Jeff (Angie) Munford, James (Rosie) Davis, Jon Davis, and Justin (Debbie) Kucharek, and their children, and his special friend Roberta Chambers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Bruce Munford and Dale Munford, his sister MaryLou Munford, and nephew Kent Norwood.
Gary had a passion for life that was contagious, along with his great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. During the last weeks of his life family members were able to surround him with love and share countless stories and happy memories.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at BJ's Catering and Event Center. A celebration is also being planned for Muskegon and will be updated. Please share your memories and personal messages with the family on his guestbook below.
