Gordon Leroy Capelin, 83 of Gaylord, MI, passed away on March 26, 2020, at Hiland Cottage Hospice in Petoskey, MI.
Gordon was born on January 15, 1937, to Kenneth & Bertha Martin Capelin, in Boyne City, MI. After graduating from Boyne City High School in 1955, he went to work as a heavy equipment operator and carpenter. He then became a lineman for Top’o Michigan REA (Great Lakes Energy), where he worked for 33 years, covering Northern Michigan.
He was married to Naomi Drost of Charlevoix, MI, on December 7, 1957. Gordon is survived by his wife, Naomi; his daughter Ruthanna Capelin Chellis and her husband Mark; granddaughter, Marissa Chellis Page and her husband Jonathan Page; his son, Gregg Capelin and his wife, Mychele Sherman Capelin; grandson, Kase and granddaughter, Kendra.
Gordon was a friend to many and easily connected to everyone he would meet. He had friends from Texas to Michigan and was always the first to wave and say “hello!” Gordon and Naomi enjoyed travel and visited many landmarks from Washington D.C. to Yellowstone National Park. They also enjoyed being “snowbirds” in Texas, Arizona, and Florida.
