Obituary for Harry H. Schulz
Harry H. Schulz, 87 of Gaylord, died at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey on Monday, August 25, 2014. Born in Forest Hills, PA on January 7, 1927, Harry was the son of Rheinhold and Hedwig (Hackenburg) Schulz. He served in the U.S. Navy from January 17, 1944 until May 20, 1946.

On August 19, 1950 Harry married Doris Betke at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Detroit. He worked 30 years at U.S. Broach in Detroit where he was a tool and die maker. When Harry retired in 1989 he and Doris moved from Roseville to Gaylord where they had a cottage. They spent a number of years wintering in Boynton Beach, FL.

In Gaylord he was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church. Harry loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially family barbeques and making Sunday brunch. He was an avid bowler with a career high 298 game. He also enjoyed fishing and playing cards and golf. Harry was a member of Ralph Holewinski Post #1518.

Harry is survived by Doris, his wife of 64 years; a daughter, Laura Schulz of Stuart, FL; sons, Kurt Schulz of Gaylord and Tom (Cathy) Schulz of Pinckney. He was “Opa” to Heather, Nathan, Karie & Aimee and great grandpa to Baylee, Brady, Claire, Derek, Meghan, Brendan, Luke, Kate, Nicholas and Scheidel. He will be sadly missed by many nieces & nephews. Harry was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Rheinhold (Evelyn) and Vern (Louise) Schulz.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-9:00 PM on Wednesday, August 27th at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 28th at Peace Lutheran Church, 3703 Old 27 South.

Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to Peace Lutheran Church, Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or the Otsego County Historical Society. Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
