Henry Gene Hofbauer

Henry Gene Hofbauer, 69, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on April 21, 1957, Henry was the beloved husband of Cynthia Ann Hofbauer (née Peterson). Henry graduated from Harbor Springs High School and married his high school sweetheart on October 18, 1975. They made their home in Harbor Springs.

Henry spent much of his life working with his hands. He worked in manufacturing, later as a handyman, and eventually in property management for a hunting and fishing club. He was known for his strong work ethic, ingenuity, and ability to build, repair, or create just about anything. If there was a school project to complete, a Halloween costume to make, or an idea that needed bringing to life, Henry could always find a way to make it happen.
In his free time, Henry enjoyed woodworking and fishing, hobbies that reflected his love of craftsmanship and the outdoors. Henry enjoyed bowling and golfing and appreciated life's simple pleasures, including an ice-cold Coca-Cola.

Henry was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather LaPointe; and his parents, John and Vera (Viviant) Hofbauer. Henry carried the loss of his daughter, Heather, with him throughout the years and looked forward to being reunited with her in heaven.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Cynthia; his children, Mary (Sergio) Morado and Henry "Hank" Hofbauer both of Harbor Springs; and his cherished grandchildren, Michael and Vivian LaPointe, Gabriella, Santiago, and Mateo Morado; siblings, Regina (Ron) Wagar of Shawnee, KS, John H. Hofbauer of Kissimmee, FL and Conway, MI, Patricia (Ed) Ballou of Harbor Springs, Marvin (Kim) Hofbauer of Peoria, AZ; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Henry will be remembered for his creativity, determination, generosity, and the countless ways he used his talents to care for those he loved. The things he built, the skills he shared, and the memories he created will remain lasting reminders of a life devoted to family and hard work.
A celebration of Henry's life will be held at a later date.
