Irene R. Hausler

Irene Rose Hausler, 92 of Boyne Falls, passed peacefully in her sleep at Grandvue Medical Care Facility on September 27, 2023.

Irene was born on July 10, 1931, to parents George and Gertrude Matelski. She graduated from Boyne Falls School and was Boyne Mountain’s first Snow Queen in 1949. She married the love of her life, Floyd Hausler Jr., on October 18, 1952, and they raised their four children together in Boyne Falls. Floyd and Irene celebrated 64 wonderful years of marriage before his passing.

Irene led a very active life. She served as first female Mayor of Boyne Falls and spent several years as a cook and bus driver for the school. Irene loved to travel frequently with her husband, children, and their families. She spent many summer weekends with her family on Cherry Hill, cooking outdoors and enjoying life. She was always ready for her next adventure!

Irene is survived by her children Susan (Dale) Conklin, Cyndy (Thomas) Johnson, and Eric (Yvonne) Hausler; grandchildren, Stephen (Michelle) Seelye, Heidi (Santi) Gonzalez, Justin Johnson, Brian Seelye, Amanda Conklin, Monica (Jason) Piper, Staci (Clyde) Payton, Jordyn (Dan) Horn, Jared Hausler, 13 great-grandchildren, and special niece Katie Hausler.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Floyd “Oachie” and her daughter and son-in-law, Karen (Timothy) Seelye; her brothers, Walter (Wanda) Matelski, Edward (Marjorie) Matelski, Louie (Ruth) Matelski and sister, Theresa (Howard) Denise.

Our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the excellent and caring staff at Grandvue. Thank you for making her last years so enjoyable. She is now dancing with the angels in Heaven.

Private graveside services will be held at St. Augustine Cemetery at a later date. Please share your memories and personal messages with the family on his guestbook below.
