Janet Y. Bershback

Janet Y. Bershback, 94 of Gaylord, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on October 18, 1931, Jan was the daughter of Donald and Dorothy (Roll) Fryer. She grew up in Detroit where she graduated from Southeastern High School in 1949.

Jan was first married to Jimmie Lee Sanderson. They had four children together before they divorced. Later Jan met Donald Bershback and they were married in 1970. In 1971 they moved to Gaylord.

Jan worked for years in Gaylord at the 46th District Court, in both the County Clerk and Friend of the Court offices, retiring from the County in 1994. Always one who liked to contribute, she then worked administering real estate testing for several years, and last worked at Eagle Radio 101.5 from 2008 until retiring again in 2021.

Jan's children want to share just how much she enjoyed all of those she worked with over the years and express their appreciation for all the friendship shown to their mom, especially by those at Friend of the Court and Eagle Radio 101.5.

Jan and Don also worked together for many years, building and hand painting beautiful cabinets and shelves, which they sold at area craft shows and fairs, including Alpenfest.

Jan is survived by her children, Kenneth Sanderson of Gaylord, Lori (Dan) Burgess of Grand Rapids, Rick (Jill) Bershback of Algonac, Debra Bershbach of Geneva, IL, and Michele (Roger) Drudge of Lake Havasu City, AZ, a very special friend Mike Dunbar; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren' two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; daughters, Barbara Ann and Sherry Kay; and siblings, Veronica (Keith), Don (Grace), Kenneth, and Wallace (Betty).
