Janette Louise Mathews

Janette Louise Mathews, 87 of Harbor Springs, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2026, at home.

Born in Marion, MI on August 12, 1939, the daughter of Jewell and Theda (Lux) Swartz.

Janette married the love of her life, Max on December 17, 1960. Together they share many adventures together on their blue Honda trike, affectionately named Blue Thunder. During the Christmas season, they delighted their community by dressing up as Mr. and Mrs. Claus, riding through town and visiting care facilities to spread holiday cheer. Her greatest pride and joy was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Janette is survived by her children, Lisa Caudle and her children Jordan Caudle, Paige Caudle, Haley Caudle and Dylan (Ciara) Caudle. Kim (Luther) Vantilburg, and their children Luther Vantilburg and Joshua (Katie) Vantilburg. Ray (Kristi) Mathews and their children RJ (Nikki) Mathews and Thomas (Allison) Mathews. Mark Mathews and his children Alison (Ryan) Aquino, John (Iryna) Mathews and Max. Mary (Jim) Laslo and their children, Kendra (Travis) Binger, Desirae Laslo, Destinie Laslo and Tiffani Laslo, her sister Margret Prenger, and 26 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Max in 2025, her parents Jewell and Theda Swartz, her brothers Jewell and Joe, and sisters, Judy, Betty and Henrietta.

A celebration of life will be held at Stutsmanville Chapel, in Harbor Springs beginning at 11:00am on Friday, October 2, 2026, with a luncheon to follow.

A private family graveside service will take place prior to the celebration of life at Lakeview Cemetery in Harbor Springs, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
