Janice Ann Benson

Janice Ann Benson, 86 of Gaylord, passed away Friday, October 14, 2022, at home.  Born in West Allis, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of George and Margaret (Heinzelmann) Manning.

Growing up in West Allis, Janice later moved to Glendale, Wisconsin after marrying Pirie Benson.  They raised their family in Glendale and later moved to Madison, Wisconsin.  After retiring, Janice and Pirie moved to Naples, Florida and then to Gaylord, Michigan in 2003.  Pirie preceded Janice in death after 58 years of marriage.

Janice worked for many years as a manager in heating oil sales.  A dedicated wife and mom, in her spare time she enjoyed gardening, decorating, baking, rug hooking, and visits from her family.  Also a dog lover, she will be missed by her beloved dog, Bella.

She is loved and will be missed by her family that includes her children, Kathleen (Don) Day of Gaylord, Scott (Dayle) Benson of Park City, UT, and Dirk (Hillary) Benson of Sunset, SC; grandchildren, Ryan, Grace, Mallory, and Slater Benson; a great grandson and Matthew Gibson; and a grandson-in-law, Donald Gibson.

In addition to her husband, Pirie; she was preceded in death by grandchildren, SSgt David Day, and Samantha Gibson; her parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Janice’s family will remember her privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
