Jill A. (Fitzek) Jenkins, 59, of Gaylord, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, surrounded by those who loved her most.
Jill was born on November 26, 1966, in Gaylord Michigan, the second youngest of four children born to Judith (Judy) and Leroy (Roy) Fitzek. From the very beginning, she made her presence known. She was a true spitfire with an affectionate, unforgettable laugh and a heart devoted to celebrating others, whether it was a birthday, a milestone, or a moment that simply deserved recognition.
She married her partner in crime and soulmate, Herbert (Herbie) Jenkins of Gaylord, in April 1991. Their love story was built on deep devotion, laughter, and a shared talent for being just mischievous enough to keep life interesting. Together, they made life louder, lighter, and far more fun.
Jill was the biggest cheerleader for her family, especially when it came to basketball. Whether her children were on the court or her husband was coaching, she was always in the stands, proud, vocal, and fully invested. She showed up with that same energy in every part of life, fiercely supportive and always putting her loved ones first.
She had a lifelong love of animals, especially her dogs, who often found themselves dressed in costumes, and the barn cats her daughter fed one afternoon that she swore she never wanted but somehow became hers all the same. Jill also had a deep love for flowers and her garden, which she tended with pride and joy. It was a place of color and life, admired by neighbors as they drove by, and a reflection of her vibrant spirit. She cherished sunny afternoons spent outside and shopping, particularly when it meant finding the perfect gift for someone she loved. While some people are impatient to open the gifts they receive, Jill was impatient to give them. Unable to contain her excitement, she often delivered gifts well before the occasion, just to see the delight and surprise on someone’s face. Rarely seen without her iconic Chuck Taylors, she was competitive down to a game of Euchre, where winning was mandatory and table talk was an art form.
Jill was strong, loyal, and unwavering in her love for her family. She is survived by her husband, Herbie; her daughter, Megan (Michael Henry) Jenkins; her son, Logan (Sydney) Jenkins; her grandson, Grayson Jenkins; her nephew, Cody Johnston; and her brothers Brad and Ryan Fitzek, along with many extended family members, friends, and furry companions who were lucky enough to be loved by her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Judy and Roy; her sister, Joni Cook; and her nieces, Larissa Manuszak and Lindsay Johnston. While her absence is deeply felt, her presence remains woven into the lives and memories of those she loved.
If Jill left behind a lesson, it was this: show up loudly for your people, find joy in the everyday, take pride in what you grow, and do not forget to laugh along the way.
The family has chosen to remember Jill privately at this time. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Otsego County Animal Shelter are welcomed, allowing Jill’s love for animals to carry on.
