Joan Ellen Hutton

Joan Ellen Hutton, 90 of Gaylord and a former longtime resident of Guthrie Lakes, passed away at home at The Brook on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

Born in Pontiac, Michigan, she was the daughter of Gordon and Alice (Clothier) McLeod and grew up in Waterford.

On August 11, 1956, Joan and Robert Hutton Jr. were married in Waterford. They were residents of Shelby Township where they raised their family. Joan and Bob retired to Guthrie Lakes and following Bob’s death, Joan moved to The Brook in Gaylord.

Church was an important part of Joan’s life. She was a member of St. Thomas Presbyterian Church in Shelby Township, and First Presbyterian Church of Gaylord.

She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Joan also enjoyed pontoon boat rides on Guthrie Lake, gardening, watching birds, tending to her bird feeders, and reading.

Joan is survived by her children, Scot Hutton of Gaylord, and Kristie (Steve) Oxley of Fenton; grandchildren, Lindsay (Justin) Elenbaas of Brighton, and Kelsey (Justin) Mickus of Howell; great grandchildren, Wade and Mia Mickus of Howell, and Cole, Cooper, and Halle Elenbaas of Brighton; and her twin sister, Jean (Chuck) Binder of Howell.

In addition to her parents and husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by a great grandson, Deacon Mickus.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 26, 2025, at Gaylord First Presbyterian Church, where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in the church memorial garden.
