Joan M. Wojtkowiak, 82 of Gaylord, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital. Born in Detroit on October 18, 1936, she was the daughter of Harold and Marjorie (Barron) Hergenroeder.

On June 16, 1956, Joan married the love of her life Leonard. Throughout the years, Joan worked as a secretary at Standard Products, transcription services for an investigative insurance company and as a transcriptionist and pathology transcriptionist at Otsego Memorial Hospital. She was very active at St. Mary Cathedral and enjoyed volunteering her time making soups, baking pies and serving donuts. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Altar Rosary Society and sang in the choir. Praying the Rosary daily was part of Joan’s life. She enjoyed basket weaving, knitting, crocheting and putting together puzzles. Her greatest pride and joy was her family.


Joan is survived by her husband, Leonard of 63 years; children, Judy Mellon of Delaware, OH, Linda (Bill) Muzyl, Dan (Julie) Wojtkowiak and Sandra Wojtkowiak all of Gaylord; special grandchildren, Russell, Brentt, Mike, Courtney, Destiney, Cole, Seth, Luke, Danni and Logan; great-grandchildren, Jaz, Navy, Jaxon, Lily, Oaklyn and 2 babies on the way; brothers, Fred (Dee) Hergenroeder and Butch Hergenroeder; sisters, Amy (Cash) Sutherland and Gladys Piasecki; many nieces, nephews and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her two baby boys, Leonard and Phillip; her parents; sisters, Katie Wojtkowiak and Evie Chervak and her grandson, Marc Mellon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at St. Mary Cathedral where the family will visit with friends beginning at 12:00 PM until the time of services. The St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will pray the Rosary at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Otsego County Commission on Aging or Hospice of Michigan.
