John D. Stewart

Our beloved father, John Stewart, 83 of Gaylord died in the early morning hours on May 28. He left peacefully with the love of all of his children beaming in his heart.

John was a U.S. Army veteran who received an honorable discharge. His other accomplishments include graduating from M.S.U. with a Bachelor’s degree in education. He was always proud to be a Spartan and we were very proud of him as well. John received his Master’s at C.M.U. and went on to teach art for many years at Gaylord High School.

John absolutely loved his children and grandchildren and let each of us know how proud he was of our accomplishments. As we were growing up he taught us compassion for others, the love of nature and all its creatures. We especially loved when he played the guitar and sang to us. Having such a great imagination, we could listen for hours to his stories. We spent a great deal of time learning from him and having fun at the farm where he grew up. We will continue to gather at the property to reminisce for years to come. All of us have great things to say about our dad. He was so generous, kind, gentle and the smartest man we ever knew. He was a great father/grandfather and role model. Without a doubt, our hero.

John is survived by his children: Darren (Lisa), Kip (Patty), Dawna (Ron) and Kendra. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Kurtis (Ashley), Devin, Blake, Megan and Brendan as well as one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Mary in Texas.

Honoring our dad’s wishes, we will be having a private family memorial this summer. Until we meet again, you will forever remain in our hearts and our memories, Dad.

Arrangements are by Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service.  Please share your memories and personal messages with the family at www.gaylordfuneralhome.com
