Joyce M. Johnson

Joyce M. Johnson, 96 of Petoskey, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Villa By The Bay in Petoskey.

Born in March 25, 1924 in Pentwater, MI, she was the daughter of Clark S. and Elsie M. (Treganowan) Varnum.

Joyce grew up in Hart and Farmington before the family eventually moved to Highland Park.  She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1942.

She worked for many years at Sentry Insurance Company in Southfield and Saginaw.  Over the years she held a number of positions, retiring as a claims adjuster in 1986.

Joyce spent her retirement in Boyne City where she was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity.  In 2015 she moved to Petoskey.

Surviving are her children, Gordon K. (Margaret) Boring of Commerce Township, Bruce R. (Patricia) Boring of Petoskey, Karen J. (Jack) Mason of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Gregory A. (Donna) Boring of Petoskey and Bonnie L. (Carl) Metzger of Maggie Valley, NC; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.  She was preceded by a grandson; a great grandson; a great great grandson; two brothers and her twin sister.

In keeping with her wishes, Joyce’s family will remember her privately.  Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey.
