Karl A. Scheiterlein, born on May 13, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, left this world peacefully on November 4, 2025, in Petoskey, Michigan. He was a devoted accountant who dedicated many years of his professional life to serving the Railroad company. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in all that he did.
Karl graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit in 1956, marking the beginning of a life filled with learning, service, and passion. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, an experience that exemplified his dedication and love for his nation.
A man of deep faith, Karl held his ties to the Lutheran Church close to his heart. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, influencing his values and the way he interacted with those around him. Karl was known for his integrity, infectious enthusiasm, warm smile, and firm handshake, traits that endeared him to many throughout his life. His sense of humor remained a constant source of joy, as he always had a joke ready to lighten the mood and a positive outlook on life that inspired those around him.
Karl was not just defined by his career but also by his numerous interests and hobbies. He loved to sing and became an active member of various church choirs. His talent as a vocalist flourished in the singing group known as The Harmonymiesters, where he shared his gift of music with others, bringing joy and harmony to many. An avid golfer and curling enthusiast, Karl enjoyed engaging in these sports, finding camaraderie and competition among friends.
He leaves behind a legacy that encompasses not just his professional achievements but also a profound impact on the community through his faith and love for music.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laverne Scheiterlein; his daughter, Kim (Joseph) Tiseo; grandchildren, Jacob (Jodi) Scheiterlein, Joseph Tiseo Jr. and Jessica Tiseo; great-grandson, Alex Scheiterlein and great-granddaughter, Aryn Scheiterlein.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Freida Scheiterlein; his brother, Fred Scheiterlein; his sister, Janet Rohrbeck; and his nephew and Godson, Kevin Scheiterlein.
A memorial service will take place 12:00 PM Friday, November 14, 2025, at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, where the family will visit with friends beginning at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego County Food Pantry.
