Kenneth James Craig, 85 of Boyne City and Cross Village passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Munson Memorial Hospital in Charlevoix, MI.
Ken was born on April 14, 1939, in Flint, Michigan to Clinton and Wilma Craig. Before his graduation from Michigan State University, Ken spent two summers working in the state of Alaska.
Ken worked for and retired in 2000 from Archer-Daniels & Midland Beans and Grain Brokers of Saginaw, Michigan.
Ken was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed many years sailing the Great Lakes, fishing, hunting and downhill skiing. Upon retirement, Ken, along with his wife, Sonja, spent many summers camping and exploring the Alaskan wilderness.
One of their greatest achievements was starting and mentoring one of the first Co-Ed Explorer Scouts in the Lansing area. They took over the local teenage Girl and Boy Scout troops blending them and teaching many life skills in outdoor adventures, as well as teaching them how to handle everyday life.
Ken is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sonja, along with his dog Lizzy; brother, Kurt Craig; sister, Bethany (Vern) Deaton; brother-in-law Phil Stheiner; along with many nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Jamie and Cindy Knowlton.
A Celebration of his life will be held at a future date this summer. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mackinaw State Historical Parks through the Mackinac Associates, P.O.
