Larry Lee Hayes, age 63, of Gaylord, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026. Born on December 31, 1962, in Flint, Michigan, Larry was the beloved son of Lawrence Charles Hayes and Connie Jean (Larkin) Hayes of Gaylord, Michigan.
A proud graduate of New Lothrop High School, Larry excelled in baseball-earning All-District, All-Region, and All-County honors, as well as a place on the Flint All-Star Team in 1981.
Larry shared a lifelong bond of loyalty, laughter, and unwavering support with his sister, Shelly Blankenship (Fred Blankenship), and his brother, David Hayes of Tampa, Florida. Although they were raised in different homes, they remained closely connected throughout their lives, making the most of every opportunity to be together. Time spent as siblings was filled with practical jokes, constant teasing, and spirited competition-especially between Larry and David, who could turn just about anything into a contest. Whether it was sports, games, or everyday challenges, neither brother liked to lose. Through it all, Shelly's steady presence and love helped anchor the trio, and the bond they shared was marked by resilience, humor, and a deep-rooted affection that endured through every season of life.
Larry lived with a full heart and a down-to-earth spirit. He loved the outdoors-fishing, hunting, and cheering on the Detroit Lions, Detroit Red Wings, and Detroit Tigers. Later in life, he discovered the joy of riding his Harley motorcycle, finding peace, freedom, and a sense of calm on the open road.
But nothing meant more to Larry than his daughter, Jordan Hayes of Mount Pleasant. She was the light of his life-his greatest pride, his deepest love, and his constant source of joy. Larry cherished watching her grow, celebrating her successes, and supporting her through every step of life. He often spoke of her kindness, strength, and the remarkable woman she had become. Their bond was profound and unbreakable, filled with countless shared moments that Jordan will carry with her forever.
Some of Larry's happiest memories were made during family game nights, where laughter, friendly rivalry, and heartfelt conversation created moments of warmth and closeness. These evenings meant more than entertainment-they were reminders of the love and togetherness he treasured.
Larry also shared a meaningful and loving companionship with his girlfriend, Bobbie Dearden, whose tenderness, devotion, and steadfast care brought comfort and peace to Larry in his final days. Her presence was a blessing in his life and in the lives of his family, and her love will be remembered always.
Later in life, Larry embraced a sincere and personal faith in Jesus Christ. His faith brought him strength, purpose, and serenity. He lived with humility, generosity, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Jordan Hayes of Mount Pleasant; his mother, Connie Jean (Larkin) Hayes of Gaylord; his sister, Shelly Blankenship (Fred Blankenship); his brother, David Hayes of Tampa, Florida; and his beloved companion, Bobbie Dearden.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Charles Hayes.
