Lawrence "Larry" R. McDonald Jr.

Lawrence R. McDonald, Jr., 65, of Johannesburg, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Born on May 16, 1960, Larry was a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, whose warmth and laughter brought comfort to all who knew him.

Larry's life was full of love, adventure, and a keen appreciation for the simple joys that life had to offer. He enjoyed many happy years camping at Big Bear Lake, surrounded by beloved family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever. His love for nature extended to his beautifully tended yard, where he often found joy watching birds flit through the trees and fill the air with their melodies.

An avid hunter, Larry embraced the spirit of the outdoors, even if it meant taking aim from the comfort of his shed window. He was also a devoted motorcycle enthusiast, proudly being a part of ABATE. His passion for community was further demonstrated through his years spent coaching youth football for the Oilers, where he ignited the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie in countless young athletes.

Larry's infectious smile, sense of humor and playful personality were a source of joy to family and friends alike. He had a unique ability to put a smile on everyone's face with his silly remarks and heartfelt hugs. He was easy going, would never complain, always appreciated and enjoyed every day with Denise. He was a “simple man”.

He spent many years as a dedicated truck driver for Campbells Farm, where he forged friendships and made an indelible mark on his community. Larry's legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those he loved.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Denise McDonald of 43 years; son, Dustin (Stephanie) McDonald; daughter, Mellisa (Adam) McDonald; sister, Tina (Craig) Rinkel; brothers, Todd (Laurie) McDonald, Richard (Tina) McDonald; grandchildren, Tesa, Kimball, Addison, Maiya, Bryn McDonald; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Margaret Prusakiewicz; and sisters-in-law Corrie (Don) Clark, Terrie (Kirk) Emaus; nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a legacy of love and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
