It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lee Frank Olsen, who died peacefully at home on October 21, 2026, at the age of 80.

Lee was born on May 1, 1946, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Frank and Ardis Olsen.

Lee was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, and friend to so many. His life was defined by generosity and kindness. He leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and the lasting impact he made on the people fortunate enough to have known him.

Lee grew up in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, living on Deer Lake. He graduated and went on to play football at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence as a Staff Sergeant (E-6) for four years. While in the service, he met his wife, Lou Ann, and they married on June 27, 1970.

Lee spent 30 years teaching at Gaylord Middle School and had the privilege of teaching his own two children and hundreds of other students. Lee also coached JV football while at Gaylord Schools. For many summers, he worked with his father-in-law, Harry Cook, building houses and working on all kinds of projects together.

Lee also served as an Otsego County Commissioner for 15 years, representing Chester and Charlton Townships.

After retiring from teaching, Lee pursued his love of the outdoors and golf by working as a ranger at Treetops Resort for over 15 years. His Treetops family was very special to him.

Lee loved fishing, hunting, and golfing in Arizona and at Treetops. Lee and his wife worked together on their Rolling Hills Tree Farm, planting, trimming, and selling "cut-your-own" Christmas trees for many years.

Lee is survived by his wife, Lou Ann, of 56 years; his son, Brian Olsen (Kristi); his daughter, Christy (Fred) Becker; and his four grandchildren, whom he loved so very much, Shelby (A.J.) LaCombe, Maryann Olsen (Kaz), Calei Coon (Brad), and Eric Olsen (Lee's sidekick); his sister, Jane (Steve) Sackett; his brother, Jeff (Laurie) Olsen; and his sister-in-law, Linda Olsen.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ardis Olsen; and his brother, Rick Olsen.
