Lois Pauline Elzinga

Lois Pauline Elzinga, 90, a longtime resident of Charlevoix, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Aspen Ridge in Gaylord. She was born in Petoskey on July 22, 1936, the daughter of Oliver and Pauline (White) Garver.

Lois graduated from Petoskey High School in 1954, and moved to Charlevoix to raise her family, where she worked at the city office, First State Bank, and American Mold. After retirement, Lois and David enjoyed spending half of the year in Hollywood, Florida with many wonderful neighbors. She could always be found in the kitchen, making her famous sheet cakes, hot crackers, sausage gravy, sour cream cookies, and so much more. She loved watching game shows, doing word searches, reading the local newspapers, and crocheting. Lois will be remembered for her kindness, her laugh, and her bright spirit.

Lois is survived by her children, Patty (Greg) Sitzema of Charlevoix, Sue (Corky) Meier of Charlevoix, Judy (Mark) Holland of Gaylord, and James Elzinga of Apopka, Florida; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sandy Johnecheck and Dixie Garver of Boyne City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her longtime partner of 45 years David Dutcher, daughter-in-law Jules Elzinga, and brother-in-law Harold Johnecheck.

The family extends their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Aspen Ridge Retirement Village and Hospice of Michigan for the kindness and devotion they showed Lois.

In lieu of a formal service, her family has chosen to celebrate her privately at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey. For those who desire, donations in Lois' memory may be made to the Front Porch Cafe in Ellsworth.
