Louis C Kassuba

Louis C. Kassuba, 92 of Gaylord, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Oakwood South Shores Medical Center in Trenton, MI. Born on November 3, 1920 in Gaylord, he was the son of Frank and Anna (Jones) Kassuba. As a young man, Louis left Gaylord to work at Timken Axle Company in Detroit. On July 25, 1942, he married Virginia Klauza at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockwood, MI. He would soon leave his bride to serve his country during War II. Louis served in the U.S. Army, Company B, 97th Signal Battalion from August 14, 1942 until October 23, 1945. He returned home and rejoined Timken Axle, where he worked for 32 years, retiring in 1972. In 1976 Louis and Virginia moved from Flatrock back to Gaylord. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Cathedral where he had served as an usher. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, a hunter and a fisherman. For many years he served as an elk hunting guide. Louis enjoyed playing cards and visiting family and friends, as well playing host to gatherings at their Kassuba Lake home. He is survived by Virginia, his wife of more than 70 years; a daughter, Sandra Barrons of Trenton; sons Louis Kassuba Jr. of Clare, Gerald (Judy) Kassuba of Newport and George (Beth) Kassuba of Johannesburg; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; a sister, Laura Moyes of Gaylord and a brother, Clement Kassuba of Gaylord. Louis was preceded in death by 8 brothers, 3 sisters, a daughter-in-law, Donna Kassuba and a son-in-law, Ron Barrons. Visitation at Gaylord Funeral & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Ave. will be on Friday, February 15, 2013 from 2:00-8:00 PM where the St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will pray the Rosary with family and friends at 5:30 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial for Louis will be held 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at St. Mary Cathedral, 606 N. Ohio St. where visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in the spring at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Louis may be made to the famiy through Gaylord Funeral & Cremation Service, P.O. Box 249, Gaylord, MI 49734

Gaylord Funeral & Cremation Service, 850 North Center Ave. will be on Friday, February 15, 2013 from 2:00-8:00 PM where the St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will pray the Rosary with family and friends at 5:30 P.M


Mass of Christian Burial :
12:00 noon on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at St. Mary Cathedral, 606 N. Ohio St

Resurrection Cemetery
