Lowell C. Kussrow

Lowell Corwin Kussrow, 82 of Gaylord, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Munson Otsego Memorial Hospital, shortly after being stricken at a Johannesburg-Lewiston High School basketball game.

Born in Croswell, Michigan on January 7, 1942, he was the son of Corwin and Lela (Schubel) Kussrow.  He grew up in Croswell and graduated from Croswell High School in 1960.

Lowell attended St. Clair Community College for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force.  He served honorably for four years, stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS.

While stationed in Biloxi, Lowell married Carol Ann Allen in her hometown of Peck, Michigan.  They lived in Biloxi, then moved home to Peck when Lowell was honorably discharged from the Air Force.

Lowell worked in banking, for many years as manager of what was then NBD Bank in Peck.  When Lowell and Carol moved to Gaylord in 1998, he went to work at what was 1st National Bank, later Independent Bank, in Gaylord.   After retiring from banking, Lowell went to work as one of the first employees at Jay’s Sporting Goods when they opened their Gaylord store.  He retired from there in 2019.

In his spare time, Lowell was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He also enjoyed watching old westerns.  Always a family man first, he loved spending time with family.  Lowell always followed his children’s/grandchildren’s sporting activities and continued to follow youth athletics in the years that followed.   He enjoyed supporting his son, Doug’s high school coaching activities.

Lowell is survived by Carol, his wife of almost 59 years; his sons, Douglas (Nancy) Kussrow of Johannesburg, and Dennis (Jennifer) Kussrow of Carsonville; grandchildren, Katie (Chris) Schoettle, Dennis Kussrow, Bradley Kussrow, Joel Kussrow, and Holly Kussrow; great grandchildren, Eli, Christopher, and McKenzie; a brother, Paul (Jean) Kussrow and a nephew, Judd (Debbie) Pentz Kussrow

In keeping with his wishes, Lowell’s family will remember him privately.  Please share your memories and personal messages on the guestbook below.
