Marilyn "Jane" Clute Thomas

Marilyn “Jane” Clute Thomas, 87 of Boyne Falls, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023, at Hiland Cottage Hospice House in Petoskey. Born June 25, 1935, in Gaylord, she was the daughter of Melvin and Elna (Olstrom) Clute.

Jane was known for her love of crafting and making her beloved quilts, crocheted blankets, and creative bird houses for others. She always enjoyed a good laugh and had a sharp whip that made others smile. Jane was always up for a drive around northern Michigan, seeing the countryside and especially enjoying views of Lake Michigan with the boats and lighthouses. She shared fond memories of growing up on her family’s farm in Gaylord and fishing in Canada. Jane worked hard the majority of her life, providing for her four children. She was a joy to be around, and was loved by her family, including her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Mark (Christine) Thomas, Christine (Tom) Baldwin, Julie (Mark) Jarema and Sarah Goodrich; brother, Rex (Angie) Clute; brother-in-law, Bruce (Jackie) Thomas; sister-in-law, Renea Clute; special grandchildren, Elizabeth (Joe) Warner, Robert (Erin) Baldwin, Katelyn (RJ) Kloss, Elaine (Scott) Jarema, Gordon (Casey) Goodrich, Lynnette Goodrich, Peter (Val) Jarema, Tim (Mary) Smith and Amy Smith and 9 great-grandchildren.

The family has chosen to remember her privately. In lieu of flowers, those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation (Education Fund) 360 Connable Avenue, Petoskey, MI 49770. Please share your memories and personal messages with the family on her guestbook below.
