Marjorie Jane Goldsmith

Marjorie Jane Goldsmith passed away peacefully at her home in Petoskey on August 30, 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dan in 2023. Marjorie devoted her life to her husband and four children.

Marge was born March 11, 1931, and attended Boyne Falls Public Schools, graduating in 1948. During her high school summers, Marge rode the train to Petoskey to work at the Waffle Shop in Bay View. During her early years of marriage, Marge was a car hop at Wimpy’s at the corner of US 31/131 and later worked at JCPenney, both in Petoskey.

Marge was a wonderful and devoted mother. When their two older children decided they wanted to learn to downhill ski both Marge and Dan bought skis and learned alongside them. Weekends the family could be found skiing at Walloon Hills. When snowmobiling became popular, weekend evenings were spent exploring trails with friends and neighbors. Marge and Dan loved taking their two youngest children and later grandchildren in their Skiboose into the swamp for bonfires and hot dog roasts. Summers were spent camping in local campgrounds with family and friends. Marge loved getting together with her sisters, so they could all talk at the same time.

Marge and Dan were instrumental creators of the Basket Shop at the Antique Flywheelers Fairground. Show weekend and Kids Day were special times for the two. Yearly trips to Disney World with family, and later annual road trips across country and touring in their Model A Ford with friends were enjoyed.

Marge was a gifted seamstress, knitter, crocheter, and baker. Her pies were the best around and everyone had their favorite. Cleaning was one of her passions - no cobweb or dust mite was safe even behind her refrigerator or under the washer. Even into her nineties, you could find Marge on her hands and knees scrubbing floors that you thought were already clean. She loved flowers and working in her yard. This Spring she spent weeks planting flowers around her house. Marge touched the lives of many people, was dearly loved, and will be greatly missed.

Marge was proceeded in death by her parents Floyd and Myrtle (Towns) Hausler, husband Daniel, brothers Floyd (Oachie) and sisters Midgie Follette and Phyllie Case. She is survived by siblings Norm Hausler and Katie Hausler; her children Judy (Rich) Conrad, Dan (Ruth) Goldsmith, Wayne (Tammy) Goldsmith, and Tracy Youse; grandchildren Chris, Meredith, Dan, Brian, Greg, Kohl, Zane, and Elise; great-grandchildren Caroline, Richard, Taylor, Alex (Emily), Melanie (Ronnie), Joshua, Takoda; and three great-great-grandchildren. Special thanks to sister Katie for all the special care she gave the family for years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Boyne Falls Methodist Church where visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 AM. A luncheon will follow at St. Augustine Church in Boyne Falls. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to the Northern Michigan Antique Flywheelers.
