Marshall S. Emig

Marshall Scott Emig, age 61 of Comins, Michigan, passed away, very unexpectedly, at Munson Hospital in Traverse City, on Monday, December 11, 2023, following a short, but tragic, fight with, very aggressive, cancer.  His passing left the family stunned.

Marshall was born in Comins on July 31, 1962, to Wilbert and Velma Emig. He graduated from Fairview School with the Class of 1980. Marshall joined the Air Force following graduation and served our Country for about 10 years, overseas in Italy, in Washington State, and Alaska.  He returned to Michigan, and married Susan Vincent, originally of Atlanta, MI.  They made their home in the Pontiac area, where he worked in commercial construction. He moved back to Comins, with Sue and their young daughter, Amanda, when Wilbert’s health began to fail, continuing to work construction projects on location.

Marshall’s artistic talents were endless.  He enjoyed working on all kinds of projects from woodworking, building model planes, carving a complete chess set.  From oil painting, to restoring and maintaining his and Amanda’s ’66 Mustang.

Marshall is survived by his daughter, Amanda (Eric) Smekar and his new granddaughter, Elena Rose; two step-sons, Shane Jobe and Travis Jobe. His brothers, Stuart (Sue) Emig, Ted Emig, his sister, Mona (Cary) Lee, brother-in-law, Terry (Gaye) Maurer, sister-in-law, Maggie (Don) Emig and a list of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Susan.  Also two nephews, Jesse and Travis (Stu & Sue) Emig; his oldest sister, Gaye (Terry) Maurer; his parents, Wilbert & Velma Emig; oldest brother, Don (Maggie) Emig; and sister-in-law, Tammy (Ted) Emig.

In accordance with Marshall’s wishes, cremation took place, so that both his and Sue’s ashes can be spread together at a future date.
