Marvin Evans

Marvin (Marv)Evans, 65 of Gaylord, passed away on March 5, 2020.  He was known and loved by many in the community of which he lived from the age of 6 weeks old. He was an avid fisherman and while he only shared his special fishing spots with a select few, he shared his love of fishing with many.  It was considered an honor to be asked to go fishing with him. When he wasn't fishing he spent time gardening, even growing tobacco one year just to prove he could (he didn't even smoke) and every year he loved going camping with his entire family  Though he truly loved gardening, fishing, and camping, his true love was his family.

Marv is survived by his loving wife Mary of 47 years, his three children Marci (Todd) Heffner, Brandy (Adam) Thompson, Heather (Michael) Duhoski, his 4 grandchild whom he adored Jacob Evans, Emily Heffner, Pheobe and Olivia Thompson; 5 siblings Ramona Viviano, Willa (Phil) Sturdevant, David (Mary) Evans, Earl (Joyce) Evans and Athol (Sabrina Moore) Evans;  14 nieces and nephews and 32 great nieces and nephews and 14 great-great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Tilden Evans, sister Niona (Bubbles) Williams and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Helen and Arthur Davis.

Marv graduated Gaylord High School in 1972 and married the love of his life.  He worked at Georgia Pacific for 34 years. He was actively involved in the Nortland Sportsman's Club and served as a past President.  After retirement, he also actively volunteered in the community with Toys for Tots, Gaylord St. Mary's, and Gaylord Athletic Boosters.

Marv never met a stranger, was quick with a smile and even quicker with a hug.  His hugs were undisputably the best. He always made room at his table and insisted those without family join his for many holdiays.  He was the guy who would give you the shirt off his back or go without if it would help another. His loss will truly be felt thorugh out the community.

A memorial gathering will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, July 12, 2020 at the Otsego Lake County Park.  Anyone who knew Marv knew he did not want a funeral and would not want anyone to fuss over him.  In the words of Marv Evans, "shake it off, rub some dirt in it and get back out there."

Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to his family for future designation.  Contributions may be made to Mary Evans, c/o Gaylord Community Funeral Home, P.O. Box 249, Gaylord, MI  49734.
