Mildred Elizabeth “Millie” Goodale, 77 of Gaylord, passed away at home on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
She was born in Munich, Germany on December 23, 1947 to Aaron and Trudy (Smith) Schmidt, where her father was stationed, serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. His military service later took the family to Morocco where they lived for several years.
Following her dad’s military service, the family returned to the United States, settling in Springfield, Massachusetts, where Millie finished her education, married, and began to raise a family.
She went to work with the United States Postal Service in Massachusetts and later in Lakeland, Florida where she and her husband, Glenn, moved in 1987. After Glenn’s death, Millie moved to Cheboygan to be near her daughter and son-in-law, and moved with them to Gaylord in 2021.
She was a Mum to many exchange students from around the world and an area rep for EF Foundations, who placed exchange students, while living in Lakeland, Florida. Her love of travel led her to visit several former exchange students and their families around the world and in Europe. She also enjoyed many cruises and travels around the world, the United States, and Canada.
She was a collector of Beanie Babies, an avid gardener, she enjoyed fishing, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and computer games. She also loved visiting Disney and Universal Studios, as well as hosting Hurricane parties.
