Mollie A. Peterson

Mollie Ann Peterson, 73, of Gaylord, Michigan passed away peacefully at her home after a battle with cancer, on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

Mollie was born in Bay City in 1952 to Charles and Elizabeth Shook, the second child of six. She attended Bay City All Saints Central and graduated in 1970.

Mollie moved to Gaylord with her husband, John, in 1974 and became a nurse's and restoration aide with Otsego Memorial Hospital at McReynolds Hall, devoting herself to rehabilitating others for over 40 years before retiring. Through her efforts, she touched countless lives of her patients and their families, never seeking or expecting thanks for her work. Knowing that she had helped another person was thanks enough.

Mollie's selflessness extended to her personal life, too. Mollie was kind, caring, and generous - traits reflected both at home and when out in the community. She was a devoted wife to John, loving mother to Christopher, and the best grandma to Benjamin and Katherine, the lights of her life. Countless many were fortunate to know her as a dependable friend.

Mollie and her family would like to thank everyone for the tremendous amount of support and care that they offered and provided during her battle with cancer. Your unconditional care helped more than we can express in words; we are in debt to all of you, and we love you.

Mollie is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elizabeth, and her brothers Lawrence (Larry) and Charles Jr (Chuck). She is survived by her husband, John, of Gaylord; her son, Christopher, and his wife, Allison, of Raleigh, NC; her grandchildren, Benjamin and Katherine; her sister, Mary Woloshik (husband, Peter) of Auburn; and her brothers, David (wife, Kitty) Shook of Essexville, and Mark (wife, Pam) Shook of Quanicassee.

A Celebration of Mollie's life will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, July 12th at Knights of Columbus Hall, 2573 Wilkinson Road in Gaylord.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Michigan in Mollie's name are highly encouraged. The link for donations can be found here, https://hom.org/donate .
