It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Edward Martin, who left us unexpectedly on September 27, 2025, due to an accident in Vanderbilt, MI. Born in Detroit, MI on August 5, 1949, Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and friend to many. Growing up in Washington, MI, Paul graduated from Romeo High School in the class of '68. It is there that he met Kathy Phillips, the love of his life, their freshman year. They were married in 1969 and celebrated 56 years as husband and wife. He proudly served in the Army from 1969 to 1971, spending most of his time in Alabama. After his time in the service, he dedicated 32 years to the Ford Motor Company, contributing to the automotive industry before spending the last 10 years of his working life at Walmart in Gaylord. In 2002, Paul and Kathy made their home in Vanderbilt, where he continued to create lasting memories with family and friends. Paul was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, deer hunting, snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, and ATV adventures. However, nothing brought him more joy than spending quality time with his beloved family and many cherished lifetime friends.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; his daughters, Heather (Tom) Swift, Melissa Staunton and Andy, and Paula Martin; and his cherished grandchildren: Katelynn (Simon) Garcia, Jared Martin, Jacob Staunton, Brittany and Jessica Swift; great- grandchildren, Luis, Isabella, and Elisa Garcia; and brother Randy Martin.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Terry Martin.
A Memorial service will be held at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 3:00 PM, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Paul's life and share stories of laughter and love. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM.
Paul's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, love, and adventure will never be forgotten.
